Linz’s Musings – Weathering a Storm of a different kind…
G’day all
As Christmas is fast approaching (can I say its two weeks today…!) we are seeing another raft of restrictions easing in Victoria and New South Wales, in time for the Christmas and holiday period.
Travel restrictions have been lifted throughout Oz, and all of us here in Australia, and in New Zealand can start to look forward to spending time with family and friends and begin to put 2020 behind us.
And while things are certainly looking up in AU & NZ, the U.S is an entirely different story.
I was mentioning last week indicators are pointing towards a ‘perfect storm’ in Real Estate (more on this in the next couple of weeks), but the U.S. Europe and the U.K. are weathering a storm of an entirely different kind.
Particularly within the U.S they are now seeing a surge in cases and deaths, possibly linked to Thanksgiving get togethers’ and with tens of thousands being hospitalised each day, medical systems are almost at breaking points.
Some states are increasing and extending lockdown laws, or ‘economic pauses’ as some states put it, states like California, New York, Michigan and others are trying hard to stem the tide of cases prior to roll out of vaccines very early in 2021.
The bright news is the commencement of vaccines, the U.K started this week, and president-elect, Joe Biden is promising 100 million doses for the U.S. in the next 100 days.
This will certainly make a massive difference, and countries under siege right now, will be able to start getting on with their lives again, hopefully relegating the virus to the inside pages of the newspaper.
In the meantime, spare a thought for our U.S. friends and families as they fight through an extremely tough and crazy time. Hoping all stay safe & well and enjoy the holiday period as much as possible.
From an investment standpoint though, watch this space! When this fog of war clears early 2021, there will be treasure chests everywhere.
